West Indies Cricket Blog: Caribbean pride

Congratulations to Usain Bolt , who stands on the shoulders of all those who went before him , Arthur Wint et al . I havent seen the race yet , so I cannot yet claim that it was / is spine tingling . It isnt going to be on where I am until prime time This evening . I have absolutely no doubt that ALL in the Region salutes his world record performance , and wish him success in the 200 meters race , I also wish him success in the 200 meters .

Congratulations to Thompson from Trinidad & Tobago , who not only did himself and the twin States proud , but also the Region . He also stands on the shoulders of people like Mc Donald Bailey , Mike Agostini , Hasley Crwaford et al .

The other competitors from the Region who didnt get medals need not be discouraged , I have absolutely no doubt that they gave their best , and no doubt that was reflected in their times . They too have contributed in making the rest of the World sit up and take notice .

I sincerely hope that Asafa Powell , solves his problem . In my opinion there seems to be two related things that impinging on his performances . The first is that maybe his mental approach needs to be worked on , this I also thinks affects his self confidence .

It would be sad if his problems dont get solved , because he is a talented & gifted athlete , and I do believe that working with a Sports Psychologists , and perhaps a Hypnotist would be of tremendous help in getting him back on track to good performances .

Somebody should stick a cricket ball in the hands of Usain Bolt! Can you imagine him steaming in from 22 yards?!?

Seriously, congratulations to Jamaica, and all the Caribbean athletes!
  • dot · 1 year ago
So he can become a West Indian loser instead of a Jamaican winner?
  • Rog · 1 year ago
Actually Bolt was a cricketer in the past, according to a yahoo, UK sports article.
Great, great race though. Most amazing thing I have ever seen and to know that it is a caribbean man make it feel all the better. Congrats!

Congratulations to all the Caribbean and West Indian Olympians. You showed the world that each of you had come of age. You have all matured so quickly, that we could not believe our eyes, when Bolt, Powell, Thompson and the women sprinters and the others, shred the field and track in billowing clouds of trailing swelling prodigious pomp and frenzy.
Wow, was all the words that escaped my silent lips and disbelieving eyes.

I sincerely hope the Windies or moreso the Stanford 20/20 picked side of cricketers are playing serious 20/20 cricket or practicing real hard with concentration and focus.
I have not heard a peep from the side since they defeated Canada.
    What's going on?
Do not let the Englishmen come down to Antigua and insult Mr. Stanford by taking home the big pay check. This would be a travesty to the soul of the West Indies and a lasting mark attached to the career of each of the Windies player.
Much is riding in this contest.
For inspiration, give this your all - this is your personal Olympics.
Thank the Stanford Organisation by winning this contest - and remember Usian Bolt's run at the finish line.
The Englishmen are coming down to trounce and win - you have to turn them back in no uncertainity.
Is Gayle, Chanderpaul, Sarwan, Marshall and Bravo ready and fit for this showdown?
  • ram · 1 year ago
    victor,
No Englishmen will get Stanford money; the money will remain in the West Indies. Hope they spend it responsibly. Marshall will be a key contributor in this game. I think Bravo is having a surgery this month.
I really feel that Dolin is not in the squad.
Go Windies, show the caribbean pride.......take de money and BOLT.

So much is happening around the world that it is personally affecting everyone's life:

Here is something to read and to practice.

Remember, the next person you see or come in contact with is God in disguise, so please respect him. THIS IS TRUE.

    God said:

There is something special going on in the world now, and for some time. You are reversing a trend.

Your heart and mind roam the world. What you speak is heard around the world. What you hear resounds within you and ripples out to be repeated to the one who spoke it and to all others, near or far.

The toil and trouble you read in the newspaper, by your very reading, you promulgate.

Every email you write reaches more than the recipient. It does indeed go out into the airwaves. Even when the air waves are presumed silent, they are heard. Even the deaf can hear.

You are a producer and reproducer of thoughts. The same can be said for love. You increase it, or you don't.

Those who have websites speak louder. Their vibration goes further.

Those who post on websites spread their light further and faster.

Your vote may not be significant, but your thoughts are. Your words are. Your love is.

The something special that I speak of is that there is a higher bell ringing throughout the world. Despite all the nonsense, there is more love resounding, and it is catching on.

You see, where there is love, judgment goes out the window.

You have tremors when you think about the devastation that some rulers in the world have imposed. A part of yourself put simple Human Beings into two lines, one a line that allowed them life, and one a line that put an X across their lives. The two lines are a personification of judgment, beloveds. When you judge, by your thoughts, you put people in one of those two lines. Enough. Make one line, beloveds. You know which line.

In the world, everything is slanted, beloveds. And now you are going to tilt the world up.

Now you know your thoughts played a part in everyone who lived. And now you want an end to cruelty and umbrage. And so now you pluck out the black crows from your heart and turn them into red cardinals of love. From judgment to love. From disdain to love. There is much more room in your heart for love. Dispense with judgment, and you will have made much more room for love to bloom.

If you would really remove negativity from the face of the Earth, then no longer will you publicize it. You replace your "tut-tut" thoughts with caring and loving even about those who have hurt you. You find a way, for no one has hurt you as much as your own thoughts have hurt you, beloveds.

Those who caused pain to you, near or far, personally known to you or not, they have forgotten about you and are no longer causing you pain. You have taken over for them with your own thoughts. With every hurtful thought you have, you open the wounds. It is you who must end the travesty of injustice. It is you who must become the Just. It is you who must remove the traces of judgment from your heart and thoughts. It is you who must make peace with yourself and so add peace to the world.

You do not love war, yet you can love even the people who make war. You must love them, beloveds, because peace depends upon you. If you really love peace, then you have to put your money where your mouth is. You must stop condemning anyone, including yourself. No word of condemnation is to cross your lips again. No tales of wrongdoing are to be told, for, as you tell, you uphold. Tell about cruelty, and you uphold it. Tell about war, and you re-declare it. Remove war from your heart, and you make peace. Declare a truce with yourself. Go into the silence of your heart and smoke the pipe of peace.

Without Marshall, WI chance for Stanford $20 million just reduce. He was suppose to play a major role, anyway Dowlin is in the squad, he’s good.

Many WI players lived in foreign countries during and after their playing days including Gordon Greenidge and Clive Lloyd.

Shiv has a house in FLorida but his soul is in Guyana and I understand he visits very often. He also owns a home in Guyana and Unity Village is his real home.

By the way, what the heck is up with WI not wanting to go the Pakistan for 2 tests, they should have taken this with 2 hands. Can't WI for once think independently of England?

Jamaica, Trinidad and Guyana are some of the most crime ridden countries in the world as a percentage of crime to their populations.

i dont think its an issue with chanders either, he is thinking long term and is just laying down roots for his future,

West Indian culture is characterized by indiscipline, lck of professional ras standards and moral decadence, especially in countries such as Jamaica and Trinidad. Small wonder therefore, these two "bigger" islands are quickly becoming failed states, a view shared many international observers, including yours truly.

It was unsurprising to me when I herd Marshall was tested positive for "drugs" Lets be clear about actions- it is inexcusable and no excuse must be acceptable, it wouldn't surprise me Jamaicans rush to ask for fans to show him mercy.

    Rational people should show none.
  • victor · 1 year ago
I have read Tony Becca's article "Let's go to Pakistan, a friend in need", in the Sunday Jamaica Gleaner, and I have agreed with him.

'What I do know, or believe, however, is that Pakistan and the West Indies are two of a kind, that Pakistan and West Indies cricket is weak, that their boards are broke, or near to broke as can be and that one needs the other.

The West Indies should step in and assist Pakistan in this time of need, and that would improve their standing with the Asian bloc and especially so with India.'

Sports, is that medium which transends the petty, negative dark side of human emotions and help restore balance to the individual's mind process.
Sports must stand tall and firm against political and radical madness. Never allowing skewed and foggy,upside-down tantrums to interfere and disconnect the pursuit of harmonoius and gregarious betterment and upliftment. In fact, this is what the Olympics is all about and was created for.
Sports, has the ability to create equilibrum in a space where there is lopsided disparity and acrimony.

So, whosoever, has discourage the Windies to go to Pakistan in their great time of need should be looked upon as suspect and no friend of the Windies.

The West Indies, like Pakistan or India or Australia, thrive in the ambient, friendly cricket culture or tournaments and look forward to the visiting team's arrival like long lost brothers whose merriment can hold no bounds and even rival the feasting of the Prodigal Son.
The Windies should not make such colussal blunders in refusing to tour Pakistan. After all, he ain't heavy, he is your cricketing brother. Politics is not about cricket. Pakistan needs something to disgress their distressing attention, they are in an awfully dark period and need their friends to help spread a warming word of cheer.

Is the Windies team a side of towering strength or a bunch of wimps?

This is not the Windies team like what I grew up to know, love and believe in. This is not the West Indies, man.

Where is Tony Cozier or Fazeer Mohammed, Vaneissa Baksh and the other Caribbean writers? come on, get on the case of those short sighted and misguided West Indies cricket administrators.
  • American · 1 year ago
    Victor
I agree with you 100% AND I BELIEVE a few other Caribbean writers like Fazeer Mohammed endorsed the tour as well

I understand Ramnarine, the WIPA president is against the tour or are unable to get his members to accept the tour on safety grounds

If this is true, Ramnarine must be devoid of any sense of reality, his own country is crime ridden with a murder rate higher than Pakistan, so I'm not sure if he also supports WI playing in Trinidad or Jamica where the crime rate is even higher than Pakistan.

What if foreign teams refuse to play in Jamaica or in Trinidad based on their rotten crime rate? How will West Indians feel about this.
  • SilvaSurfa · 1 year ago
Firstly i just want to say congrats to the 'Bolt' of lightning. The Caribbean as whole, particularly Jamaica were outstanding in Track and field at the Olympics.

Also to make comparisons with whats going on in Pakistan, as opposed to the crimes in the West Indies, doesn't even come close. Every country or Island has a city or town filled with crime.

The recent incident in Islamabad for example was a illustration of a War-torn country, with a terrorist element. Any visiting team could have been in that Hotel and it is not a matter of being targeted, more a case of being in the wrong place, at the wrong time. And that in itself would make it very risky for a tourist to visit, whether it was for sporting reasons or not.

Great news! West Indians must feel proud of themselves. There has to be some special job done by the coach. Successes doesn’t comes by a fluke.
