I am however happy that Greenidge and Haynes were inducted, for they surely earned and deserved it as players.
Pity though, don't you guys in the WI have have a Hall of Fame or your players?
IMy guess is that the boots used these days are lighter in weight than those used in Sr Frank Worrell's days . I also notice that the boots on the right were probably used when he was fielding & bowling , since one of the boots has what appears to be capped at the tip of the sole with metal .
BTW , I hope that youbrought to the attention of the authorities that they misspelt Sir Frank's surname , it is very glaring .
The induction of Gordon Greenidge & Desmond Haynes is well deserved .
In the Rum Shop there are comments containing all issues regarding Cricket . If you take the time & effort to peruse the Rum Shop you will find posts & threads regarding Xavier Marshall etc .
You advertise the "Rum Shop" as a place for cricket debate- you are very wrong- The comments in the Rum Shop are very difficult to understand and follow because of the language employed by its denizens.
The name "Rum Shop" also conveys a lawless and sinful place- why Rum Shop? Why associate a noble game with "Rum" and "shop?"
Is it an inducement for your people to shop for Rum.
Does the Rum Shop aid in the development of WI cricket and does it help to improve the English writing and language ability of your young people?

You keep on discussing the love of Cricket. It doesn't matter if you're Royalty or in Poverty, if you have a passion, then you're entitled to your opinion.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And American,
I haven't been on this website for a while and i see that you continue insult the majority of the people that are on this forum. Does it matter where their Status is from?...I've watched shows like 'Jerry Springer' and 'Maury' and that doesn't show your fellow Americans in a particulary good light. The point i'm making is check your own backyard first before looking down on other Countries or Islands.
An intelligent person like you have no business watching Jerry Springer Maury.
I stand by what I said- will you allow a young impressionable person to participate in "The Rum Shop?"
The language, the tone, the insults of that place is reprehensible and it does not aid in the development of WI cricket.
I'm not a regular watcher of those shows, but i'd be lying if i said that i've never seen it. Besides how do you know what business i have in watching it, if you haven't seen it yourself, to lay such an opinion in the first place?
Whether or not the Rum Shop is a suitable place to discuss cricket, is not for you to judge upon. You're entitled to your opinion of course, but so are they. It doesn't make them any less so because you don't approve of their lifestyle. I thought that was the whole point of a forum, to discuss something you're passionate about with fellow bloggers, regardless of class or status.
It just seems a shame that you have to resort to insults everytime somebody disagrees or challenges you. It's pretty obvious that you know your cricket, so state your case and give the reason behind it. Banter is one thing, but getting personal is just below the belt.
I would expect nothing but a strong defense of rum or anything intoxicating from you-
No serious minded person would want young people taking up Rum instead of a great and noble game like cricket, except for alcoholics like you- true, misery loves company Ram.
I have advised you on many occasions to seek help, go to AA and get cleaned up before its too late.
Your recent incarceration for DOI should have been a wake up call, but I guess your love of the bottle conquers everything else.
Pity you man.

The news is that your BOARD lost the case and is now forced to rescind its recognition of the games, moreover, it is estimated that legal cost to the board will run into millions of dollars.
It just seems the WEI board is run like a banana shed- notice how helpless the Board seems during the dispute between two corporations, with ownership foreign to the West Indies islands.
The reason Silva, is lack of leadership- simply put, there is o one in the WI capable of leading WI cricket.
This is the sad truth.
The islands leaders simply cannot compete in a globalized world economy
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As much as i hate to admit it, there is alot of truth to that statement. I know of alot of successful caribbean-based Businesses in the UK, that should be more productive than they actually are. I've got relatives in the States that tell me that the same applies to there as well.
When i was in Barbados to see one of the World Cup Matches last year, the staff members wouldn't let me into the ground because i was wearing a old 'cable & wireless' West Indies shirt. The reason being they didn't want the cameras catching my shirt for sponsorship-clash reasons. I can understand if i was one of the players, but being a spectator in the ground, i just found the whole thing petty and ridiculous.
And it's that kind of mentality, which is why Sponsorship Businesses in the Windies is still 30 years behind everybody else. As far as Stanford goes well, i don't see what the issue is. He is financing the whole tournament, so the way i see it, he should be well within his rights as to what Sponsors he would like to be advertised in the first place. But there's too many big cheeses in the Caribbean, that care more for their Position and Status, than for what is best for the West Indies in general.
Unless the Board can come to a compromise, the whole thing will be in danger of being Cancelled and it will be no loss to Stanford, as he will take his Business elsewhere.
Yea, the plagues of the bibical Moses are about to descend into your midst.
Look out for each other as stealing of land, and general stealing will be rampant. Let your government be your lawyer and watchdog.Talk with your Prime Ministers/Presidents to help protect each of you NOW.
For all those who have been manipulated power for themselves and family will come crashing down - this will be worldwide in all SECTORS and sections of Society.
Catastrophies and upheavals are imminent all over the world and will affect each of you. This is not doom and gloom but a preparation and warning.
Put on your thinking caps and work together, helping each other. Work to help your country/island and the least vulnerable amongst you. Tough times are upon all of you, but you can lessen the impact if you all work together as a unit. Work on planting kitchen garden to feed your families NOW. Strengthen your immune system, as well as your overall body.
Great reform is coming after this period f you can hold out.
The world is about to go on a wild roller-coaster ride, And bodies and corporations will be flung helter skelter screaming for help.
Remember, to work together for the betterment of your country or island .And plug yourself into your GOD first, (not a religion). Respect each other, regardless of skin colour, or economic levels. Just work together, to help getting you out of these turbulent years.
The ride has began. This is not the apocalypse as was predicted in the bible. This is something new, clearing the way for a grand entrance of a GOLDEN ERA.
What is Mr Stanford's objective towards WI cricket? If it is to improve WI cricket he is , going about it the wrong way. A much better way would be to invest in grassroot cricket: in schools, clubs and 'A' team cricket especialltyin the smaller countries. Young boys/girls in the Windwards and Leewards need encouragement by provideing facilities and tools to play cricket
I see no need to further the progress and fill the pocket of rich English cricketers. After all is done 20/20 cricket is not the way to go to move fledging talent to maturity.
In fact it is not cricket at all and in this particular case only a way of boosting the ego of it sponsor!
Call me old fashioned and biased, but i fell in love with Cricket and admired alot of the Great Players from the West Indies and other Countries through their accomplishments in Test Matches. It is that version of the game that is the cornerstone of what made this Sport, so great in the first place. I accept that times are changing and there will always be room for ODIs and 20/20s, but for the shortest version of the game to be considered as the most important, purely for financial reasons, is a sad state of affairs in the cricketing world.
And finally i'd just like to congratulate Sachin Tendulkar for becoming the all time leading scorer in test cricket. I might be biased in saying this, but it took him 21 test matches or 15 test innings more than Lara to achieve the landmark. I'm not going to make comparisons because i'm a big admirer of Sachin's as well. Next in line of current players must be Aussie captain Ponting and the way Shiv (ChanderWall) has been going in the last 18 months, he will feature up there towards the end of his career.
I feel your pain about Stanford and 20/20 in general. However, you are and every other analysis that I have read totally ignores the most important constituency in analyzing if 20/20 will spell death for test cricket.
The only constituency that will determine if 20/20 will lead to the demise of test is the people/the fans/the market
If fans or the people or the market are willing to support 20/20, then test cricket will die, if however they don't support this version in the long term then test cricket will survive as it has for over 100 years.
My take is that each version of cricket will find its own niche or rather fans with different taste will support the version they like best- thus there are room for all 3 versions.
Look, when the aircraft was first invented, people then believed that it would have led to the demise of ships, of course no such thing happened.
More relevant, when ODI's first came into the scene, when predicted it would have led to the end of test cricket. We now know that not only
did no such thing happen, but in fact, ODI helped test cricket more than any other factor, including technology.
So worry not, test cricket will flourish and 20/20 will penetrate new and big markets- USA and China- just you wait and see.
I like your optimisim about the whole thing and i hope for the sake of Test Cricket that you're right, but the fact that IPL tournaments and Stanford matches becoming more global, i can honestly see this overtaking the scheduling of the test cricket calendar.
From a spectator's view 20/20s are very convenient to see on a week day after work, or even 50 over ODIs becoming more nightly with floodlights, but Test Cricket will always be a daytime activity and it can't compete with that. From a players point of view, i fully understand that they would most likely choose 20/20s instead of a gruelling 5 day test match, which are played in back to back schedules these days. On top of the fact that the pay offered in Stanford or IPL, is alot more of a handsome offer. Any Professional with common-sense would want to be paid more, without the risk of getting burnt out or injured.
Test Cricket needs to be re-invented and i hope that the ICC can increase the squad members so there is enough man-power to have a squad rotation in the event of back to back test matches. What worries me is that there is alot of money that is being invested in the 20/20s, but virtually nothing in the tests. That has got to take it's toll eventually. I don't usually like being proven wrong, but i really hope that i am in this case.
TRINIDAD VS MIDDLESEX TOM
I heard both HBO and ESPN mentioned, but I can't find any confirmation. By the way, I feel the Trinidad team can win both the WI select and the England boys- my optimism is based on the leadership of Ganga.
The new superfruits
From "Prevention" Magazine
Give the apples and bananas a rest and round out your repertoire with these exotic, antioxidant-packed picks
Though Americans are eating more fruit these days (go us!), more than half are the old standbys: bananas, apples, and oranges. Yes, they're good for you--but you're missing out. "Different fruits provide an array of disease-fighting vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants," says Joy Bauer, RD, author of Joy Bauer's Food Cures. In fact, broadening your horizons can measurably improve your health. Colorado State University nutritionists asked 106 women to eat 8 to 10 servings of produce daily for 8 weeks. Half the group chose from 18 different varieties, while the others ate the same 5 over and over again. Two weeks later, blood tests showed that the high-variety group reduced their rates of DNA oxidation, possibly making their bodies more resilient against disease; the other group had no c hange.
Ready to mix it up? Here's a quickie primer on some of the smartest "exotic" picks based on their health benefits--and how to serve them in place of common favorites.
For perfect blood pressure
Good: Bananas
Better: Fresh figs
Why: Six fresh figs have 891 mg of blood pressure-lowering potassium, nearly 20% of your daily need--about double what you'd find in one large banana. In a recent 5-year study from the Netherlands, high-potassium diets were linked with lower rates of death from all causes in healthy adults age 55 and older.
You'll also get...a boost to your bones. Figs are one of the best fruit sources of calcium, with nearly as much per serving (six figs) as 1/2 cup of fat-free milk!
Shop for figs that are dry on the surface and feel heavy in the hand. A perfectly ripe fig may have slight cracks that are bursting with the fruit's sweet syrup.
Serve by chopping and adding to yogurt, cottage cheese, oa tmeal, or green salads. Or, enjoy them as a savory snack: Cut a slit in the side and stuff with 1/2 teaspoon of a low-fat version of a soft cheese such as chèvre or Brie.
To protect your heart and fight disease
Good: Red grapes
Better: Lychee
Why: A French study published in the Journal of Nutrition found that lychee has the second-highest level of heart-healthy polyphenols of all fruits tested--nearly 15% more than the amount found in grapes (cited by many as a polyphenol powerhouse). The compounds may also play an important role in the prevention of degenerative diseases such as cancer. "Polyphenols act like a force field, helping to repel foreign invaders from damaging your cells," says David Grotto, RD, author of 101 Foods That Could Save Your Life!
You'll also get...protection from breast cancer. A recent test-tube and animal study from Sichuan University in China found that lychee may help to prevent the formation of breast canc er cells, thanks to the fruit's powerful antioxidant activity.
Shop for lychee with few black marks on the rough, leathery shell, which can be anywhere from red to brown in color. Look for fruit that gives when pressed gently. Shells should be intact and the fruit attached to the stem.
Serve by peeling or breaking the outer covering just below the stem; use a knife to remove the black pit. Add to stir-fries or skewer onto chicken kebabs to add a sweet, grapelike flavor.
For beautiful skin
Good: Orange
Better: Guava
Why: One cup of guava has nearly five times as much skin-healing vitamin C (it's a key ingredient in collagen production) as a medium orange (377 mg versus 83 mg)--that's more than five times your daily need. Women who eat a lot of vitamin C-packed foods have fewer wrinkles than women who don't eat many, according to a recent study that tracked the diets of more than 4,000 American women ages 40 to 74.
You'll also get...bacteria-busting power. Guava can protect against foodborne pathogens such as Listeria and Staph, according to research by microbiologists in Bangladesh. Also, a cooperative study by the USDA and Thai scientists found that guava has as much antioxidant activity as some well-known superfoods like blueberries and broccoli (though every plant contains a different mix of the healthful compounds).
Shop for guava using your nose. A ripe guava has a flowery fragrance, gives a bit to the touch, and has a thin, pale green to light yellowish rind.
Serve by adding to fruit cobbler recipes (the tiny seeds are edible) or simmer chunks in water as you would to make applesauce. Guava also makes a super smoothie: Blend 1/2 banana, 1/2 ripe guava, a handful of strawberries, 1/2 cup soy milk, and a few ice cubes.
To lower cholesterol
Good: Apples
Better: Asian pears
Why: One large Asian pear has nearly 10 g of cholesterol-lowering fib er, about 40% of your daily need; a large apple has about half that much. People who ate the most fiber had the lowest total and "bad" cholesterol levels, according to a recent study of Baltimore adults.
You'll also get...protection from creeping weight gain. The same researchers found that people who ate the most fiber also weighed the least and had the lowest body mass index and waist circumference.
Shop for pears with a firm feel; fragrant aroma; and blemish-free, yellow brownish skin. Some pears are speckled in appearance; the markings shouldn't affect flavor.
Serve by dicing it into a salad of Boston lettuce, crumbled goat cheese, walnuts, and mandarin oranges. Or, make it a dessert: Add peeled and cored pears to a saucepan with 1 cup white wine, 1 teaspoon honey, 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger, and enough water to cover the pears. Cover and simmer 40 minutes or until pears are soft.
To fight cancer
Good: Watermelon
Better: Pa paya
Why: It is one of the top sources of beta-crypoxanthin, which research suggests can protect against lung cancer. Like watermelon, it is also a rich source of lycopene. "Although there is currently no recommendation for how much lycopene you should consume in a day, research shows that the nutrient may protect against several different types of cancer, including stomach, endometrial, and prostate," says Grotto.
You'll also get...better healing. Papayas may help speed burn recovery when used topically, thanks partly to the enzyme papain, which also aids in digestion. "Papain helps break down amino acids, the building blocks of protein," says Elisa Zied, RD, an American Dietetic Association spokesperson.
Shop for a papaya with yellow golden skin that yields to gentle pressure.
Serve by cutting lengthwise and discarding black seeds. Scoop the flesh using a spoon and sprinkle with lemon juice. Or combine chopped papaya, mango, red bell pepper, red on ion, raspberries, lemon juice, and cilantro for a fruit salsa. Serve over grilled fish.
Unless i'm missing something, i thought this forum was about cricket, oh well silly me for thinking that.
Back on the subject about Cricket, I just wanted to say that with the Stanford tournament now up and running this weekend gone, i kinda feel bad for both T&T and Middlesex. Both of those teams were successful in their domestic 20/20 tournaments due to some key players performing well for them. Now i find it very unfair that those same players were chosen in the International squads. For example Dave Mohammed has been T&T's best bowler and Owais Shah, Middlesex's best batsman. Surely both England and the West Indies had enough players to choose from outside T&T and Middlesex respectively. What chance will their squads have from only having the option of second choice players?..it kinda defeats the object of their teams taking part in the first place.
Middlesex, the English champs were totally outplayed, and I am going to wager that England will also be beaten tomorrow.
The Ganga led team can hold its own against any county and state team in the world, including teams from Australia and India
Like an experience I hd in 1981. I was with a New York touring team in Florida. At the ground on on one of the games was the legendary Alf Valentine of the Ramadin and Valentine spin duo. As I was introduced to him I asked that I shake his left hand, the hand with which he created so much magic. It was very inspirational for me.
Ganga led the team very well and some of the performances by the younger generation, like little Bravo for example is definately encouraging for the future. It was good to see Ravi Rampaul back to full fitness as well.
Although Trinidad did outplay Middlesex, i felt there was alot more to the result than what we saw. The conditions and the pitch itself played a big part in this match. It was very slow and didn't come on to the bat at all. It is no wonder that T&T won the domestic tournament here, as this pitch plays in a very simular vein to their grounds in Trinidad. Not taking anything away from Ganga's tactical leadership, but it would be a different kettle of fish playing in Australia or England for example, as the conditiions are completely different. But that's the beauty of home advantage i guess.
Also the more i see Darren Bravo, the more his style and technique reminds me of a certain BCL. Whether he can reach to those high standards is unlikely, but having someone like an established member of the senior team like older brother Dwayne, can only push him on to bigger things in the future.
but never the less well done trinidad and tobago, they showed their class,
someone from the top has to bat till the end though.
GO figure-
I will continue to insist that Ganga's leadership is critical to any West Indian revival and the team will not improve sufficently and quickly without him.
u cannot place judgment one these class acts based on one series.
u really have no idea about the game itself, try playing sometimes.
The so called Fab 4 of India haven not taken India to the top, despite playing together for over a decade now. and their record of victories is at best modest.
The same can be said about India at home, as Australia are finding out to their cost. With the retirements of Shane Warne, Brad Hogg and Stuart McGill, Australia haven't got a good spinner at the moment, which is cruical to have on slow, flat Indian pitches. The Indian batsman have been in form in this series, by posting big totals and have immediately put the Aussie batsmen under pressure. You can't expect the Aussie quicks and seamers to be effective on those wickets, unless you can produce the reverse-swing, which they haven't been doing.
Despite American's continuous campaign to have Daren Ganga as WI Captain, i'm just not convinced with him as a whole. I give him credit where it's due, as he leads the T&T team very well, but the bowling/fielding strategy flatters to decieve on slow pitches, when the ball doesn't come on to the bat, hence their success in the 20/20s there. If the tournament was taking place on a better wicket, i think it might be a different story.
My biggest problem with Ganga is that he commands respect from the Trinis, but will fail to get that response at International level, due to his constant failures as a specialist batsman. Let's put this in perspective, the likes of Ganga, Devon Smith and Runako Morton have test averages in the early 20s, so does Australia's Brett Lee who bats at number 9, need i say more?
It is a shame because i do think that Ganga has all the tools to be a good test match batsman, but his concentration and shot selection is poor and has been in and out the side for about a decade now. The only chance he got to display his captaincy skills at International level was against England in 2006, through injury to Sarwan. And to be honest, he didn't make a great impact at all, where we lost 3-0. It seems evident that for Trinidad he might be a big fish in a small pond, but for the Windies he is swimming with the sharks and has badly under-achieved for someone of his ability.
Chris Gayle on the other hand might not be the best tactical captain in the West Indies, but the one big thing he has going in his favour is that the players respond to him in a very positive way and that alone is half the battle won. This was first evident against England in the ODIs in 2006. He was also the first WI Captain in history to record an away victory in South Africa, since their return to Test Cricket. Plus a home victory against Sri Lanka, but has been plagued with injuries since then.
There has been some gradual improvement in our team, but still too inconsistant for my liking. I hope the selectors give Brendon Nash a push in the team, where we need some stability to support the brilliant lone star Chanderpaul. And to vary our bowling attack with a spinner in the team, with the hope that they have a decent run in a series. Whether it's Jaggernauth, Miller or Dave Mohammed, i don't mind.
1. Brian Lara
2. Vivian RIchards
3. Javed Miandiad
4. Sunil Gavaskar
5. Allan Border
Now, thats more like it !
No one should come down to the Caribbean and expect to run off the Windies. on their own turf.
Send Kevin Peterson and his boys a good long lasting memory, and on a quick jet back to merry ole England.
See you next year at the test.
great job . Gayle was great.
whats up with the pent house/dog house wake up!!!
One thing that did come to my attention was how impressive and how well a disciplined unit the Superstars (West Indies) looked in their matches. Their professionalism, focus and attitude was one that i haven't seen since the days of our success during the Clive Lloyd era. Maybe it's a wake up call that the wrong people are involved in our cricket, hence the Board and Selectors.
Seeing some of the youngsters from the Superstars and Trinidad and Tobago, given the chance to express themselves on a bigger stage, with so much at stake was a joy to watch. This should bode well for our future. I know that it was just one tournament and we still have a long way to go in regards to the quality of our test match status, but i hope that this is a sign of our cricket going into the right direction.
I have long beautiful cherished memories of dancing to your music in the Caribbean of my youth and in the relaxing, busy world of a grown man.
Yea, all the people will indeed miss you. But we will remember you playing the guitar to soca frienzy. You will always be one of the brightest shining star in the firmament of the Caribbean. You helped turned a drab existence into exploding vitality. See ya my friend !
Farewell.
"Sometimes you run to meet life. You chase after it. Sometimes life seems to be a flood that rushes to you and catches you unawares, and yet, when all is said and done, life is much ado about nothing. Inevitably, all the turmoil is a tempest in a teapot. Flood waters recede on their own, and all the people who were like a plague to you or were a great blessing to you have moved on, and you begin to see that now.
You see the fleetingness of life in the world and do not yet see the eternalness of you. You miss the main point, beloveds. Life is about you and not all that goes on around you. Life is not about the news and the weather. Life is about you. Whatever goes on around you, you are eternal. You belong in life and not in the ravages of it. You belong in Me, beloveds, and what more is there to say?" GOD/
Poor captaincy by Gayle, despite his superb batting was responsible. Firstly, his decision to select Miller was a bad one- Mohammed should have been picked- he is a better death bowler and a much better batter.
His bowling changes was also wrong. His fielders let him down badly, the biggest culprit was Baugh- who I believed drop the match when he reprieved Malik.
taylor bowled a bad last over, yorker length was needed, it would have given singles only.
u r such a novice at this game and it shows.
You never ceased to amaze me- read what you wrote about the bowlers and you find the answer to your own question
Okay, you need help, so I'll spell it out- Gayle should have positioned himself to bowl the last over and not Taylor, as it was easier to dispatch Taylor, The batters were having a hard time with Gayle.
Additionally, if he had selected Mohammed, then he would have not have the problem in the first place.
Coverdrive, because you are so narrow minded in the way you think, it block your ability to think critically.
THis defeat is a shame- here you have a team who spent the last 6 weeks in a camp, under the guidance of the the best coaches for Stanford, and yet they could not have defended 294 under lights and went on to concede 17 runs in the last over-
Imagine if Shoaib and Yousuf was playing- Pakistan's best batter and bowler, what would have happened.
learn the game
How the heck could MIller, Findlay and Nash feature in an ODI tournament? And What of Baugh?
It seems Gayle is getting his way with the selection- Baugh, Miller, Nash- add it up Coverdrive, assuming you can add
The only sniff of success during that time and now has been the Champions trophy in 2004 and that was only due to the match winning partnership of Courtney Browne and Ian Bradshaw. We've seen signs of improvement in the last year or so, but the lack of handling a pressure situation came back to haunt us yet again.
Well it's only one match and if there's any consolation, we made it very competitive as opposed to getting a one-sided beating. So i just hope that the guys can learn and bounce back from their mistakes.
Lets be objective- Shiv came to the crease after both openers had gotten golden ducks and Tanvir was swinging the ball dangerously.
He stayed to the very end, and kept the team in the hunt. It was up to the other batters to go at it, unfortunately none made more than 12. MOreover, because of the long tail, it made things difficult for him.
So to say, that Shiv is to be blamed is to remove blame from the other players who need to contribute.
Gayle needs to take responsibility- he got his way with team selection, decided to play Miller instead of Mohammed, a better bowler, fielder and much better lower order batter.
He bowled Sarwan for 2 overs that went for 24 runs, when he didn't need to do so- the fast boys still had overs left and they were bowling well.
So Gayle's poor captaincy and team selection is to be blamed- Put GAYLE in the dog house.
This whitewash though only formalized today, really began with the team selection. This Jamaican team, at least 7 members from the team that played today are from Jamaica. In fact, this team will be hard pressed to beat Trinidad.
Not that 7 Jamaicans in the team is a problem, if at least 4 of them could have justify selection, that would have been okay.
But these picks are baffling- It begs the question, who selects team team on tours, I'm certain the coach and captain get the say.
What role did Gayle plAyed in advocating for 7 of his countrymen? This is a bigger shame than his antics in the field today. He got out today on 99 and refused to walk because the umpire didn't raise his finger, as the captain of the team, he shamed the entire WI people and fans the world over.
His shameless act was unbecoming of the captain, especially when the bar was set by the past WI greats and most recently with his former captain Brian Lara.
At least 6 members of this team should not go o to NZ, and I sincerely hope the Selectors are now called upon to explain their rationale for this team's selection.
I found it very unfair to blame Chanderpaul, after everything that man has done for the team within the last 18 months. It was a difficult situation as both he and Sarwan had to rebuild a partnership. Their run rate was slow and if anything they probably should of rotated the strike more, but their failure to do that created pressure for the other batsman to follow. It's just one of those things, he's bailed us out enough times, so using him as a scapegoat is just a petty excuse to use. The whole evaluation of the team performance in general should be called into question, not just one man.
American, i've got to ask why are you making this about Jamaica v Trinidad?...The only solution you seem to have is replacing Jamaican players with Trinidadian ones. I really don't think that's the answer. Other Islanders like Darren Sammy and Andre Fletcher deserve a mention, but all you seem to do is criticise Jamaican players and endorse Trinidadian ones. Now that's not very impartial is it? Granted, some of the players that were mentioned have failed to perform and the selectors will have to think hard about, what is the right balance to play in these conditions.
Also think that you're being very harsh on Chris Gayle. You keep using Brian Lara as a shining example in comparison, but i remember in a match, when he was batting, that there was a stumping appeal against him. The square-leg umpire gave him out and he refused to walk and telling him to ask the third umpire upstairs. I'm not saying that he wasn't justified in doing that, but i'm just illustrating a point of how much of a contridiction, it is by using that scenario to smeer Gayle's sportsmanship qualities. All it shows is that the players are human and sometimes the emotions of the situation can get the better of them.
The captain needs to be held accountable and can you seriously claim that his team selection is makes sense?
Maybe they were abit hasty in choosing the squad for New Zealand and maybe they should've monitored how the relative newcomers were going to cope in the mini series against Pakistan. Thus far, with the exception of Lionel Baker, the others haven't travelled well, performance wise.
You made alot of valid points in regards to some of the players that should've been picked, but the way i see it, the boyz competed well in stages and had quite a few opportunities to win all three of those matches, but some of them made alot of basic errors, which was due to pressure. For the newcomers it was just a lack of experience at this level. I was more disappointed with the more experienced players, who failed to deliver when it mattered.
But I just don't see the point in playing the blame-game towards Gayle. Some of his decisions might of been questionable, but you can't argue that his batting led from the front. It was just three One Day matches at the end of the day. Let's hope that the selectors and Captain can learn from that experience and come back stronger for New Zealand.
God said:
It is very important to you how you are treated. You are not always treated well. You, who are a Child of God, may be treated shabbily. It is not right. Yet why must thoughts of untoward conduct stick in your mind? You must think you have lost something. You must think that someone else's rudeness is the unmaking of you. You must think that someone else's opinion has an impact upon your worthiness.
I set your value long ago. It is not to be challenged. It is My desire that all on Earth be good to one another. And if someone is not, if others may be rude or unkind to you, they have devalued themselves. They have drawn a picture of themselves, not you. Keep your picture true. You have your connection to Me. You are in My good graces. Is someone else's opinion really that important to you? How much must another's poor behavior impact your life?
Of what necessity is another's opinion of you? It makes no sense to derive your sense of self-worth from someone else, be it negative or positive.
No one's opinion can make you more than you are now. You know that. And yet you let other people's attitudes be the scale upon which you weigh yourself. Consider someone else's opinion as a bubble. How much does a bubble affect you? Let others blow all the bubbles they want. Bubbles are not to impact your life.
When someone is rude or unkind, it is as if you let them throw you in a dudgeon, and you throw away the key, and you stay in the dungeon when you could, all along, walk out. You didn't really have to allow yourself to be thrown into the dungeon.
Accept My evaluation of you, and never mind others' evaluations of you.
Of course, you understand I do not evaluate you. I do not judge you. I do not give you demerits. I never did. I never created demerits. Perhaps you did. Whoever did, demerits are not for you to take seriously. Someone put a decal on you. Take it off right away. It is not a tattoo. It is not a brand for life.
If you went to the post office and wanted to buy a dollar stamp, you wouldn't accept a twenty-five cent stamp. You wouldn't walk off with it and tell yourself that somehow that was all you deserved. Beloveds, you are worth more than all the stamps in the world. You are worth more than anyone's opinion of you.
It behooves you to think well of yourself. Do not blame hurt on someone else. No one else is responsible for your self-love. No one else is to make a dent in it. Hold your heart high. Keep it on a level with Mine, and not someone else's. Let rudeness and unkindness evaporate. Poof! Let them be gone. A poor opinion is about the person who holds it and not about you at all.
If you pass by a shabby building, that does not make you shabby.
If there is litter in the street, it doesn't mean that you are litter.
May the sun shine on you. May the skies be blue. May you be the recipient of love wherever you go.
And when it rains, let the rain wash away all accumulated hurt the way it erases smudges on your cheeks.
There is a shield of love around you. It is impenetrable.
Accept your invincibility. Declare it to yourself. You are stamped God-approved. You have My seal upon you. You are wrapped in My love. Let go of thoughts that are less than you are. Let go of thoughts that are less than Mine. If someone defames you, what does that have to do with you? You are with Me. Let the other stuff go.

Know that although we love our cricket in the West Indies, we also love life, - and so we look at and take part in every other area of the highway of life that we encounter. To become rounded and educated, all good standing West Indian, and moreso Guyanese, love to be knowledgable in all things especially our spiritual practices.
Do you just carry your empty cup to the water fountain, when a group of guys are having a discussion of the financial meltdown, while sipping from their gourd ?
