West Indies Cricket Blog: Ten years down the line

He should know; afterall he has been nothing but a damn chatterbox for the past 10 years, while amassing the IMPRESSIVE test average of 26. Yet he wants to be captain of the Windies. He should go back to his native T&T and keep his trap shut!!!

10 freaking years..what a load of crock! These man dem expect Stanford to put up freaking millions for the next 10 years so dem have a night out and pick up big $$$ but when it comes to playing for WIndies they cant be bother. What kind of abition is that? So if a man is 20 now him cant play in a winning top WIndies team till he is 30.
You all need to take dem winning millions and invest that shyte into more freaking training and developing game plans
wtf!!!! 10 years.. man get less jail sentence for murder and dem ya players ah tell we that it gonna take 10 years before dem can get to the top. Just when I listen to man talk on the field during the final and thought at least him activate his brain then him come with dis kind of statement...rahtid money can tun some ppl fool is a shame
  • American · 1 year ago
Most knowledgable observers will agree with the Skipper. WI cannot get back on top of the TEST cricket world in 3 years. Mr Sandford made it clear he was referring to 20/20 and to a lesser extent ODI's.

Test cricket is a different fish and Darren's is obviously stating hard facts and being realistic.

Darren must be prepared to accept the captaincy when it is offered to him next week, with Mr Khan now he manager, they will make an awesome team.

Stanford's investment will certainly reap dividends and Ganga is an important part of the leadership that will see to it.
  • ram · 1 year ago
American, you may be a JACKASS but I admire you persistent over the last two months backing Ganga, “One may conclude that you are a girl and have a thing for him”. Hey nothing wrong with that.
Again, Ganga is not in the team so he can’t be captain. Ganga should be the 12th man and anytime he runs out to give water, he can advise the captain.
WI needs all the help avaiable and he is very Knowledgeable of the game.
Mr Khan is the manager and not part of the seletion committe.
  • CW · 1 year ago
Where did Ganga say Test cricket then? enlighten me
  • Surendra · 1 year ago
Ganga may not get back in the WI Team, but I agree with him that you have to look at 10 yrs from now.

No one can see progress/development in 1 day or 1 year. GO ask Australia, what stage they started their planning.

In anything, and more so the develoment of WI cricket, ask all the Coaches, managers, and who ever were involved at that leve ( a simple case, refer to Richie's comments not so long ago), you have to start at the Grass root, the under 15, the club ( see what happens when you do not do what needs to be done at local and club; re Samuels).

So, at under 15, in 10 yrs, one will be at 25, and he wil be matured enough to play for the WI Team.

It is unfortuante that Darren Ganga cannot manke the WI team as a player, for he is not a Captain only, he is a Leader.

    Ganga makes sense.
  • Cricketer · 1 year ago
A leader based on what? How come he could not lead the team in England? To be a leader others must be willing to follow your lead. Apart from the Trinis that make the test team, NO ONE, AND I MEAN NO ONE has any regard for Ganga. So you can harp all you want about him being best captain this and leader that, the facts are what you should examine first before making wild and unsubstantiated statements about what amounts to be a VERY MEDIOCRE player who has been around the test team for 10 years and is yet to impress anyone other than yourself and that idiot pretending to be an American!
  • CW · 1 year ago
    Surendra
Ganga makes NO SENSE AT ALL. YOU ARE CORRECT ABOUT BRINGING THE YOUNG PLAYERS THROUGH BUT WE ALREADY HAVE FULLY PAID CRICKETERS. IT SHOULD NOT TAKE A PLAYER WHO HAS BEEN IN THE GAME FOR OVER 3 YEARS THAT LONG.
Do the maths..if you expect a 15yr old to mature in the sports after 10 years then work out how long it should take present players. For example lets say Gayle has been playing for 5 years I would expect him to be on top after another 2 years etc
Anyone over 21 who cannot master their craft in a sporting arena after 7 years at the sport really need to seek another career. So to me Ganga is subconsciously relating development process to his own inability to adopt to the BIG game. To be fair to him its not all his fault BUT we all saw how with a million on offer he ran his mouth off like a flowing river..all positive i might add BUT once again to me it was the complete opposite to his performance on the field during the England game he Captained.
To kind of echo what cricketer said i got the impression that Ganga feels like a BIG fish in a small pond when in Trinidad for whatever reason but when he gets into the BIG pond aka International stage he either gets stage fright or suddenly realise how insignificant he is in the big world. Its up to him and his mentor to eradicate that demeanour so that even if he cant perform with the bat he could have impress everyone with a positive approach to captaincy. That has never happened and he needs to get his head together and until someone points out the cold facts to him we will never see any of his potential.
American may say I dissed my Jamaican team he needs to understand constructive criticism and that might help those around Ganga to help him. Wake up Surendra one day you may have kids and need to help their upbringing into a harsh world in which we live, its called tough love
Ganga may have made a million dollars but he sure dont make sense trust me
  • R · 1 year ago
You must be a faggot to be so obsessed with Ganga. Fortunately you live in that Satanic piece of property called the US where battymanism is considered normal behaviour. Keep that shyte over there.
  • American · 1 year ago
Sorry yuo feel that way and I must insit that you stop this personel attack. You know Ganga is the best you people have in the islands. He will make West indies cricket grate again even if he scores just a few runs. You all need his brilance which Gayle simply does not have. Gayle and co. can score while Darren calls the shots.
  • Big AL · 1 year ago
American talks a load of bull. i think Ganga want the WICB to stick with him for another 10 years....HELL NO...Ganga must go.
  • blade · 1 year ago
The only team Ganga should be selected for is in the commentary box where he can join Bishop and Dujon filling the airwaves with irrelevant gibberish!!!
  • WI · 1 year ago
As a few others suggested before its either American is gay or a girl in love with first lara and now ganga.
  • ram · 1 year ago
I come to the conclusion that the Trinis (recent players) are kinda one dimentional. After careful analyzing here’s the answer:
    1. Lara was a great batsman; not a good captain
    2. Ganga is a great Captain; not a good batsman
    3. Ramdin is an excellent keeper; not a good batsman
  • ram · 1 year ago
For WI to be on top again our players have to good at both levels.
  • coverdrive · 1 year ago
chanders - great batsman poor captain
sarwan - good batsman , injury prone
gayle - good leader, poor technique

whats your point, ram, players are selected on diferent merits, its
whats called the make up of a team.
  • WI · 1 year ago
You guys leaving out the big word selfishness that being keeping the tam down apart from the board/management. Thats why i had said prior to the world cup Lara should have relinquist the captaincy like shiv did and concentrate on batting. If i am correct too Shiv refused the captaincy during the recent series.
  • coverdrive · 1 year ago
who makes decisions on captaincy in the west indies
    the players or the selctors/mgt?

so may attacks on gayle, sars, ganga (especially ganga)
and i dont here any of them saying they want the position
theselectors are making the decision based on what they
think is best. so whoever they c hoose i will have to
    support them.

gayle may not be the best tactically, but he can inspire
sars may not be the best to inspire but he is a good
    tactician
and ganga well he is good captain, who knows how
to use players, but can he inspire unlesss he produces?

so its situation where the selectors have to decide what
west indies need right now. and players have to be
professioanl enough to support whoever is there at the
    end of the day.

support, i may have my views on who is the best, but
i would not run to bangladesh like ram if ganga gets it
thats not how u support a team.

Coverdrive why u have to write somuch to prove a point.

and i agree wi, sars should have been caprtain at the time
of the world cup, lara made it clear he was not into
the one day cricket format, and he was carrying a
knee injury also that affected him. so we the selectors
and mgt, sacrificed the team'c chances of doing better
to give lara one last hooray. we were hosting and
did not take advantage of it.

change mgt!! its the only way.

    and it has started
  • ram · 1 year ago
Coverdrive here u go again bringup old story. you should be happy that guyana give trinadad the 1million.
  • WI · 1 year ago
Coverdrive players is being offered captaincy but they do have the option to decline right? correct me if i am worng. But i am sure you read about numerous top players offered and decline shiv is a typical eg.
  • WI · 1 year ago
I meant captain around the world too.
  • ram · 1 year ago
WI, I dont think cover drive will remember that, I think the man is old. How old ru coverdrive 70+....good for you
  • Fan4Eva · 1 year ago
10 years? A load of croc . In 2/3 years we could beat anyone. Our guys need to play more and to be assured that they will still be in the team even after a couple of bad games. They don't have to play one game with the expectation that if they fail they are out. This brings to the fore that that personal goals are of utmost importance ,not team goals.can't really blame them.Stick with the best we have, give assurances, let them relax and mold into one unit, pay them fairly and timely and the results would be pleasantly different.

And people calling for another send off for Brian Lara?
  • Fan4Eva · 1 year ago
Surendra,i called for a send off of Lara, the Windian icon, not necessarily
Lara ,the cappo.for his contribution to WI cricket overall.Sarwan s/b the captain indefinitely,or until he screws up.Gayle on the other hand is superb when the going is relaxed, his brains freezes up when he needs to use it the most(in tough situations, this is true for his batting as well).Sars may not be the best we have, but having said that ,he was never really given a fair chance, but he is the best we have that can make the team.anyone who sehs Bravo s/b capt.,then my conclusion is that u r a Trini and does not have WI criket at heart, just Trini cricket.Bravo is a joker as a capt.
  • WI · 1 year ago
Surendra, what sence does it make if you claim to give Lara one last hurray. Don't you think it would have made better sence for him to have groomed someone for the job at captaincy even if its Gayle, Ganga or Sarwan. He could have made the recomendation i sure the borad would have respected his view. I don't think the borad can force players into doing anything
  • coverdrive · 1 year ago
reading what u are saying about triini and bravo makes u een a bigger
joker, read carefully what u wrote, u are at lost on this captaincy issue.

    Trini to de bone.
  • Surendra · 1 year ago
WI...no no, I was not giving BL a last Hurray,,,I was just saying that someone wrote those lines. I am saying he got the last Hurray in the WC.
  • Surendra · 1 year ago
As, I read the lines above, they came from Coverdrive, and from that, he is also saying BL had his last Hurray
  • coverdrive · 1 year ago
as i was suggesting before do a wi vs world 11
thing for him, do it right, but lets not mix
that up with the progress of the team.
  • Surendra · 1 year ago
    And exclude Samuels
I am not a Lara fan, but I have to admit, Samuels should have done better
  • BR · 1 year ago
A WI vs world 11??? Surely you can't be serious, considering we are barely ranked above only Zim and Bang.
  • WI · 1 year ago
    LOL good one BR.
Surendra would you want to do create more embarassment for Lara. Let the man retire and move on. He failed in the Indian league and got his hand broken in the craib beer series. Now you want him to come back agaisnt a world 11.
  • coverdrive · 1 year ago
u r right br i did not think about that
so maybe wi vs us then

    1 capt - american
    2 cw
    3 nt
    4 coverdrive
    5 br
    6 surendra
    7 observer
    8 wi
    9 big al
    10 surendra 8 year
    11 surendra 9 years

ram - water boy/ and in charge of drinks

    lol

    7.
  • WI · 1 year ago
LOL. Coverdrive i never bat so low although i open bowling on a few occasions. But with American as captain you may be right. Then again American might only be admiring Lara and not focus on the game.
  • coverdrive · 1 year ago
was kinda rough to drop ram
but i worry about his condition
during the first session of the
game, but i think he will do
    well watching the drinks and
i understand he sings very well
so he can also serve as
    entertainment.

he should be able to make
    the rounders with a push
    though.

i know he is going to curse me
  • coverdrive · 1 year ago
    can imagine him and cw
    opening the batting, and he
telling cw to bat more like
    ganga.
  • ram · 1 year ago
coverdrive is this your rounders team, or bat up and catch
  • BR · 1 year ago
    coverdrive,

You got my position right (all-rounder at No. 5 for school and club). American will most likely toss his bat and run; then realize what he did, turn back and end up running out himself. LOL LOL
  • coverdrive · 1 year ago
then maybe we should let ram play then, he might bat with a bottle of jack daniels.
  • coverdrive · 1 year ago
maybe one of the blessed days, we can really meet and play some cricket,

    even american and ram
  • Surendra · 1 year ago
You are reading me wrong,,,,,During the WC, Samuels should have sacrficedd hisw icket, so Lara could have batted on. That would hav ebeen his farewell...Oh well...

I see my name in your team, thanks. And at No.6 too....
So, what will be the WI team playing US?
  • coverdrive · 1 year ago
surendra prior to this samuels and lara has a "bust up" in the dressing
room. lara expected this to happen.
  • ram · 1 year ago
i will sponsored de whole thing

    Coverdrive,
Good team. I back my captaincy against Gayle anyday. LOL

One change though- I'll have Ram, if he is not drunk that it, also carry my jock-strap. Wonder if he could manage that task. LOL
  • coverdrive · 1 year ago
i think ram prefers the managent aspect of the game - food & drinks!!
  • coverdrive · 1 year ago
    sorry, management
  • coverdrive · 1 year ago
looks like jamaica taking revenge on trinidad, they got 1st innnings
what u guys think about hyatt as a middle order potential
  • coverdrive · 1 year ago
west indies players all doing well, powell, taylor, rampaul, morton,
bravo, ganga, ramdhin, i think the home series and the
exposure of more players in the 20/20. has put some
pressure on them to do well.

    competition is healthy.
  • BR · 1 year ago
Players taking part in a mediocre competition; I would not read too much into it. Once these guys step onto the pitch of REAL TEST cricket they don't make the standard.

Again, 20/20 is not a barometer by which to judge any cricketer's capability. And money talks, lest we forget.
  • WI · 1 year ago
I second you with that BR. I think Ramdin is gettig an eye opener though since Brrown challenged his position as keeper in SA. He seemed to have batted more responsibly against Jamaica who no doubt has one of the most if not the bbest bowling line up in the tourdament.
  • coverdrive · 1 year ago
thats my point guys, its more open to the public,
forget the 20/20 game itself, more players in
view of the public eye makes the selectors
get of their fat butts and forces current
players to apply themselves. are u all
happy hte guys are getting into some form
    in caribbean conditions.
  • Surendra · 1 year ago
    Ram,

It is nice to have fun and laugh here.
The issues in GY are serious, let us not make a joke off that.
